Q: What kind of LEDs are used in HL45R? Does Fenix offer to replace LED?

A: The HL45R uses one Luminus SFT25R cold white LED (color temperature 6000-6500K) and one OSRAM GR QSSPA1.23 red LED.

Q: What is the working voltage of HL45R?

A: Operating voltage is 3.0V-4.2V, limit operating voltage range: 2.8V-4.5V.

Q: How does the user interface for the HL45R work?

A: Rotary switch and electronic switch combination for lockout function, mode switching, and output selection. Rotatable focus ring for switching between spotlight and floodlight.

Q: Is HL45R rechargeable? How long is the charging time?

A: HL45R is rechargeable with a USB Type-C charging port. The power indicator will illuminate in an incremental cycle from left to right while the taillight is charging, and the battery takes about 3 hours to fully charge.

Q: Can HL45R be used in severe weather?

A: HL45R features IP66 rated protection: fully protected against dust and foreign objects, can withstand heavy rain and splashes.

Q: Why does the HL45R sometimes flicker?

A: The reasons that may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate:

A: Poor battery level.

Solution: replace the battery or charge it.

If the above methods don't work, please contact the distributor.

Q: HL45R will automatically reduce the brightness after using it for a while, and it can't light up higher gears, why is that?

A: When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached. When this happens in Low output, one of the battery level indicators blinks to remind you to recharge or replace the battery.

Q: Does the HL45R have a memory mode?

A: The lamp automatically memorizes the last selected output of each mode when users press and hold the electronic switch to turn on/off the lamp. When turned on again, the previously used output of the selected mode will be recalled.

Q: How do I turn on the gesture sensing function?

With the lamp turned on and the gesture-sensing function enabled, wave your hand within the sensing range in front of the lamp to temporarily turn off the lamp, and wave your hand again to turn on the lamp and recall the last selected output.

With the lamp turned on and the gesture-sensing function disabled, it will not respond to any motion operation.

*When the lamp is turned on and the gesture-sensing function is enabled, press and hold the electronic switch for 0.5 seconds to turn off the lamp. After this action, it will not respond to any motion operation.

Note:

1. The sensing range is within about 3.94in/10cm in front of the lamp, and may vary slightly depending on the material and color of the sensing object, the ambient light, the brightness of the selected output, and the waving speed.

2. The gesture-sensing function is infrared sensing. If any other objects besides your hand pass in front of the lamp within the sensing range, the lamp will also be turned on or off.

3. The gesture-sensing function can only turn the light on and off within the current lighting mode, and can neither change the mode nor the output.

4. When the gesture-sensing function is enabled, waving a hand will only turn off the lamp temporarily. At this time, the lamp is in a standby state, and power will still be consumed as the lamp actively awaits commands. If the lamp will not be used for an extended period turn the rotary switch to “OFF” to save battery power.

Q: Can I use the HL45R without the rechargeable battery?

A: Yes — it accepts three AAA batteries as a backup power option alongside the included rechargeable 1900mAh battery, so you're never without a way to power it in the field.

Q: Does the HL45R have both a flood and spot beam?

A: Yes. The rotatable focus ring switches the white light between a wide floodlight for close-range tasks and a concentrated spotlight for distance, giving you one headlamp for both.

The Fenix HL45R is a rechargeable, focusing headlamp with a gesture-sensing on/off function. This summary is drawn from the manufacturer's official user manual — see the downloadable PDF reference manual on the product page for complete details.

Reviews

I love this headlamp

"I got this to take with me hunting for gold in the California Motherlode when I don’t want to stop the hunt just because the sun went down. I’ve owned this light for over a year and have gotten hundreds of hours of use out of it and it works and feels like brand new. I was skeptical that spending almost $100 on a headlamp would be worth it but it’s worth every penny. The light is very bright and easily adjusted, it charges quick, it’s very well made/sturdy, and the battery life is fantastic for my needs. I would recommend this headlamp to anyone."

The weight is nice the

"The weight is nice the power of light is great the motion activation is a little trickey for me as a heavy equip mech so i use the on off feature The only draw back is the run time doesnt hold for a 10 or 12 hr shift ive tried running the lower setting little better since i have hl40 s for back up Not a big issue but ill not buy another until battery gets better ill by more hl40s as wear out the hinge Both charge quick so overall good product thanks vfw life member alaska"

My favorite headlamp

"I do a lot of night fishing from the reef so I use red light a lot to not scare fish away and the red is really bright compared to other headlamps. The light focus adjustment is useful when you want to see farther. It’s somewhat heavy for its size but not bulky for what it’s capable of. I’ve stopped using way brighter and bulkier headlamps like the coast wph34r for this one. I carry an extra battery for over night fishing because the battery ain’t the biggest but never needed to change the battery. I disabled the motion on and off feature cause the light would always accidentally turn off."

Great Headlamp

"I really like the flood feature for this headlamp. It really illuminates a large area which is helpful for me in attics and crawlspaces. Good battery life. I have not had a bad product from fenix, this is about the eight light I have purchased."

Gabriel R. (5/5)

Easy to use, well built.

"Great user controls. The switch serves as memory for me. One click to white light, second to red. Then the button for intensity or flash settings. Very easy to use, I don't need to go look up how to get the thing to work or blind myself in the dark to be reminded how not to do it before getting it right. I got this and a Petzl Swift RL at the same time, tried both, returned the Petzl. While the Petzl is lighter, the ease of use and build quality won out for this Fenix. This is built like a tank, very good quality. The zoom is great too. This is a manual switch from spot to flood. It also serves as memory. If I had it on spot, it stays on spot and vice versa."

HL45R

"Don’t like the motion sensing thing - turned that off immediately. An accidental off could be an issue. Couldn’t find additional batteries for it when I checked on Fenix site. I like to have at least four to five additional batteries on hand - fully charged. Would like to see it offered with neutral light as well. Blue light is not natural nor is it good for you in general. That’s about it."

Winfried D. (5/5)

Awesome Headlamp

"My recently received my Fenix HL45R Headlamp and I'm very happy with my purchase. Even though the headlamp is larger than I expected, I really like the many features and brightness levels. It's very bright on the highest settings (white and red) and I really enjoy the motion-sensor and rotary-knob features. Even though it's quite larger than most of the headlamps that I currently own, it's lightweight and very comfortable to wear, even for long periods of time. The battery life lasts a long time and the battery indicator is a plus. Thank you Fenix for another awesome product!"
