Product highlights

The Fenix CL30R is a 650 lumen camping lantern built to be the one light that handles an entire trip. Its beam reaches up to 115 feet, and beyond basic illumination, it doubles as a genuine power source — recharging your phone or other devices when you need it most. Flexible power options let it run on one, two, or three 18650 batteries depending on how long you're out, and a cold-resistant battery compartment keeps it working reliably even when temperatures drop.

Hang it from a tent pole, mount it to a tripod, or set it on a table — the CL30R adapts to however your campsite is set up. Whether you're settling in for a weekend of camping, powering through a multi-day hike, or just want a lantern that pulls double duty as an emergency power bank, the CL30R is a genuinely feature-packed companion built to handle whatever the trip throws at it.

The Fenix CL30R is a rechargeable camping lantern with five brightness levels plus Turbo and Flash outputs, and also serves as a portable power bank for other devices. This summary is drawn from the manufacturer's official user manual — see the downloadable PDF reference manual on the product page for complete details.

Overview

The Fenix CL30R rechargeable camping lantern offers flexibility in power, charging, and brightness levels. This versatile lantern features a Micro-USB port for recharging and is also an independent charging station for other devices. The CL30R delivers a maximum output of 650 lumens, illuminating an area 35 meters in diameter. Powered by one, two, or three 18650 rechargeable Li-ion batteries, the lantern offers five brightness levels plus Turbo and Flash. It features a cold-resistant battery compartment for all-season use, charging and battery-level indicators, and a hanging lanyard and tripod socket for flexible lighting options.

  • Max 650 lumens, wide-range and high-intensity luminance.
  • Powered by one, two, or three 18650 rechargeable Li-ion batteries.
  • Serves as a portable power bank.
  • Excellent cold-resistant design.
  • Integrated Micro-USB charging with battery level indicator and low-voltage warning function.
  • 35-meter diameter wide-range beam.
  • Waterproof to IPX-7 standard.
  • Reverse polarity protection, to protect from improper battery installation.
  • Tripod socket for easy attachment.
  • Single button switch for easy and fast operation.

Operating Instructions

On/Off: Press and hold the switch for 0.8 seconds to turn the camp lantern on or off.

Output Selection: When the lantern is on, single-click the switch to cycle through Eco→Low→Mid→High→Turbo. With the lantern on, double-click the switch to enter Flash mode, and single-click to return to the previous state. Note: the camp lantern only lights up at Mid output when being charged.

Battery Level Indicator: With the light off, single-click the side switch to enter power display. The number of constant-on lights shows the battery power: one light shows the battery power is less than 35%, two constant-on lights show the range 36%-60%, three constant-on lights show the range 61%-85%, and four constant-on lights show the battery power is over 85%. The indicator lights go out after 8 seconds.

Intelligent Memory Circuit: The lantern memorizes the last-used brightness level in General Mode. The next time it is turned on, it will recall the previously used brightness level in General Mode.

Low-Voltage Warning Function

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the indicator light on the switch blinks to remind you to recharge the camp lantern or replace the battery. To ensure normal use, the camp lantern will not turn off automatically and will work until the battery runs out. Note: this only works on 18650 Li-ion batteries with a button top.

Charging

To Charge the CL30R: Connect the USB cable to a USB power adaptor (sold separately), remove the anti-dust plug of the camp lantern to reveal the charging port, and plug the Micro-USB end of the USB cable into the lantern's charging port. The indicator light on the top flashes in turn to indicate the charging process has begun, and turns solid green once the battery is fully charged. Fenix recommends using a power adaptor with an output of 5V, 1.5A. It takes about 8.5 hours to fully charge three 2600mAh Fenix ARB-L18-2600 18650 Li-ion batteries, as originally included with the lantern.

To Charge Other Devices: The camp lantern can be connected via USB cable to digital products such as mobile phones with a standard Micro-USB charging port.

Note: once charging is completed, disconnect the USB cable from the lantern and be sure the anti-dust plug is secured. Do not charge the camping lantern while the light is turned on — doing so will extend the charging time or prevent the battery from fully charging. If emergency lighting is needed while charging, the camp lantern only lights up at Mid output.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the battery cover clockwise or counterclockwise to remove it. Insert the battery with the anode side (+) toward the lantern head. Put the battery cover back on and screw it clockwise to secure it.

Note: the camping lantern is shipped with a Fenix 2600mAh ARB-L18 rechargeable Li-ion battery. Please remove the battery insulation tab before first use.

Battery Specifications

  • Fenix ARB-L18 Series (18650, 3.6V/3.7V): Recommended.
  • Non-rechargeable Battery, Lithium (CR123A, 3V): Caution.
  • Rechargeable Battery, Li-ion (16340, 3.6V/3.7V): Banned.

Do not mix batteries of different brands, sizes, capacities or types. Doing so may cause damage to the camping lantern or the batteries. Do not use the camping lantern to charge banned batteries, or it may cause explosion. The lantern is only compatible with 18650 batteries with a button top. 18650 Li-ion batteries are power cells designed for commercial applications and must be treated with caution and handled with care. Quality batteries with circuit protection will reduce the potential risk for combustion or explosion, but cell damage or short circuiting are potential risks the user assumes.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using excellent quality batteries; if the lantern will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries, or the flashlight could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lantern's performance, as dirty contacts may cause the lantern to flicker, shine intermittently, or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons: poor battery level (replace the batteries, confirming correct anode/cathode installation); or the threads, PCB board contact, or other contacts are dirty (clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol).
  • If the above methods don't work, please refer to the warranty policy before contacting your authorized distributor.

Fenix is the bomb

"My husband and I live on the island of St. Croix. We have power outages weekly for short periods of time. This time the outage was from hurricanes Irma and Maria. I can't tell you how much we have valued our flashlight and lanterns from Fenix. Thanks so much for making such a quality product. We are expected to get current back by march. Cross your fingers for us. Timothy Buck"
