Fenix Flashlights | Fenix LD22

Hello and thank you for joining me today. I will be going over the Fenix LD22 2015 edition. Since its release back in the late summer 2015, it has easily been one of our most popular AA  flashlights lighting up the night at 300 Lumens on just two AA batteries, incredible right? It has 4 different brightness modes plus rapid strobe, a hidden SOS, and a new function called Tactical Mode which turns off the side switch and activates the turbo, strobe, and mid modes through the tactical tail switch alone so it bypasses the use of the side switch for a more tactical style application.

Fenix LD22 AA Flashlight

Just like many other Fenix Flashlights this LD22 2015 utilizes a Cree XP-G2(R5) LED with a lifespan of 50,000 hours and has a toughened ultra-clear glass lens with anti-reflective coating and is made from high quality aircraft grade aluminium. It includes a tactical tail switch with momentary-on function meaning if you half press the tail button then the light will come in until released. For a AA flashlight it has an incredible maximum beam throw at 394 feet or 120 meters.

The stainless steel switch allows for output selection under the regular Outdoor Mode. Outdoor Mode is the factory default setting but you can access Tactical Mode by turning the light on from the rear and holding down the side button for 3 seconds then the light will blink twice letting you know that you have changed modes. To go back into the default Outdoor Mode you would just repeat the same steps by holding down the side switch for 3 seconds and wait for the light to blink 2 times.

It will come with the standard Intelligent memory circuit (when in Outdoor Mode) that automatically enters previously used brightness level when turned on and is digitally regulated so it will maintain constant brightness as long as your battery will support the mode you’re in. It has a waterproof rating to IPX-8 standard which is 3 meters or 9.8 feet for 30 min. This Fenix flashlight is packed with several cool features! Next I will go into the overall size, different modes and runtimes.

Fenix LD22 Compact Everyday Carry Flashlight

The Fenix LD22 is 6.1 inches long and has a diameter of 0.8 inches or 21.5mm and weighing in at 2.5 ounces excluding batteries. The thin design makes it a great everyday carry flashlight. You can use a couple different AA size batteries in this Fenix Flashlight. It is powered by two 1.5V AA alkaline (non-rechargeable), Lithium (non-rechargeable) or Rechargeable Ni-Mh batteries. No matter which battery you choose you will get the same lumen output. However the run times will differ depending on which battery is used and I’ll go over this next. I will say that it is NOT recommended that you mix batteries of different brands, size, capacity or type. If you do, then you run the risk of damaging the flashlight and/or the batteries used.

While in Outdoor Mode the Turbo setting is 300 Lumens and has a runtime with a Ni-MH of 1 hour and 25 min but if you use an Alkaline will only get you about 40 minutes on this high setting. Next is the High mode which is 100 Lumens and will run for 7 hours and 10 minutes with a Ni-MH battery, If using an Alkaline battery it will last 5 hours and 5 minutes. One step down from there is the Mid setting that is 30 Lumens and has a runtime of 25 hours and 5 minutes with a Ni-MH battery and 22 hours and 30 minutes with a Alkaline. Finally is the Low setting at 5 Lumens and will run 100 hours with a Ni-MH and 90 hours with an Alkaline battery. The Strobe function is used for disorienting an enemy and will operate at 300 Lumens while the SOS is used for emergencies or for signaling help and will be at 100 Lumens. To access these features you will need to turn the light on and long press the switch for 0.5 seconds to enter strobe then click it one more time to cycle from strobe to SOS and long press one more time to return to normal operation mode.
