Q1. What are the key features of the PD40R V3.0?

  1. Patented rotary mode selection switching for accurate, single-handed operation.
  2. Inner waterproof Type-C charging port.
  3. Tail stand capability plus included body clip for different lighting demands.

Q2. What kind of LED is used in my PD40R V3.0?

A: Luminus SFT70 LED with a lifespan of 50,000 hours. Fenix does not provide LED replacement services for the time being, and users are not recommended to replace the LEDs independently, which may affect product performance and cause product damage.

Q3. What kind of battery can be used in my PD40R V3.0? Why can’t the Turbo output be operated while using a Fenix ARB-L21-5000 battery?

A: The PD40R V3.0 works best with the Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 battery. The older Fenix ARB-L21-5000 is not compatible with PD40R V3.0 because the minimum over-current protection value of ARB-L21-5000 is 14 A while the max operating current of PD40R V3.0 is greater than 14 A. Using a Fenix ARB-L21-5000 battery may activate the protection mechanism of the battery, which will cause light to go out.

Q4. What is the color temperature of the PD40R V3.0?

A: Around 6500K.

Q5. What is the operating voltage of the PD40R V3.0?

A: 2.8 V~4.2 V.

Q6. What is the runtime of the Turbo output of the PD40R V3.0?

A: The runtime of the Turbo output is 2 hours and 40 minutes. The light will rapidly accumulate a lot of heat when used on 3000 lumens / Turbo output. When the light reaches a temperature of a certain level, the light will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature so the runtime of Turbo output is measured in a total of runtime including output at reduced levels due to temperature or protection mechanism in the design. The stated data are from the results produced by Fenix through its laboratory testing under the temperature of 21±3°C according to the ANSI/PLATO FL1 standard. (For specific runtime performance, refer to the runtime graph in the manual)

*According to the ANSI / PLATO FL1 standard, the battery life refers to the time from 30 seconds after the flashlight switch is turned on until the light output reaches 10% of the initial value.

Q7. Is PD40R V3.0 rechargeable? How long is the charging time?

A: Yes, PD40R V3.0 is rechargeable with a inner waterproof USB Type-C charging port. The charging time is about 3 hours.

Q8. How can I keep from accidentally activating my PD40R V3.0?

A: Turn off the flashlight or remove the battery to prevent accidental activation.

Q9. Why does my PD40R V3.0 downshift to a lower mode after being used for a while and the higher mode cannot be selected?

A: There are two reasons:

  1. Intelligent Overheat Protection. The flashlight will accumulate a lot of heat when used at relatively high output levels for extended periods. When the flashlight reaches a temperature of 60°C or above, the lamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature.
  2. Low-voltage Warning. When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached.

Q10. Why does my PD40R V3.0 flicker?

A: The reasons that may cause the flashlight to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate:

  1. Poor battery level. Solution: Recharge or replace the battery (Ensure battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
  2. The contact point or contact of the battery or flashlight is dirty. Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don’t work, please contact the Fenix Store customer service team for a warranty claim.

Q11. What should I do when the PD40R V3.0 needs repair?

  1. 15-day replacement: Fenix will replace identical or equal products with documented manufacturing defects within 15 days of purchase.
  2. 5-year free repair: Fenix will repair a light free of charge within 5 years (1 year for rechargeable batteries) of purchase if problems develop with normal use.
  3. Lifetime maintenance: If repair is required after 5 years from the date of purchase, Fenix will charge for parts. The total repair fee is dictated by the cost of the replaced materials.

Super

"Meets and exceeds my expectations. The quality has been great and love how you get a distinctive high end click between levels. The weight feels balanced and proper in hand."

PD40R V3

"This light has a drop dead simple interface that anyone can pick up and use. Great rechargeable battery life and incredibly bright for it's size. Build quality is top notch."

Daniel C. (5/5)

Perfect edc light.

"This is my favorite Fenix so far. Its good sized, but i can still carry it in the side pocket on my pants and while I use it on the second setting the most it is nice to be able to turn it up much brighter when needed. It is beyond easy to use one handed and the battery life is great. It is my #1 recommended Fenix light."

Steve H. (5/5)

Great design

"Absolutely phenomenal build quality for the money. I really like the collar dial over cycling the modes by a push button. I have a much older version that I’ve had for 15 years and still love it, it has a collar to select brightness and a tailcap button for on and off. I much prefer to have the separate on off button but this still works well. This allows you to keep it at a low brightness where you might not want to hurt your night vision by having to cycle through a high output first."

Good flashlight not what I need

"REALLY NICE FLASHLIGHT BUT . . Frustrated with my prior purchase with combined rear push button level & on/off control I purchased this . Insufficient pressure difference between both functions makes it annoying to use . On the PD40R the selector switch is a pleasure to use though I would prefer if the on/off function be separated and located to a rear push button . I did not appreciate how much wider the reflector end was in comparison and it is not comfortable in my pocket . I could use the external holster but I find that uncomfortable and a safety hazard . What I really need is a manually focus-able slim flashlight with separate controls ."

Great light

"This is the best flashlight I have ever owned. You can see so much more than you ever imagined."

Kimberly N. (5/5)

Extraordinary reliability

"my professionalism tells me that seeing is one of the most important safety concerns when it coms to being in the dark. I've been in dark unsafe positions years ago, But thanks to Fenix and their system of hand held lights that are unmatched to other flashlight leaves no question that having a light that provides a waterproof, tough light at times that normal flashlight would not stand up to the point of having the light needed for the safety of my family and my personal life at work. there no question what is the best for the money."

Thomas D. (5/5)

Not a favorite!

"I dislike the rotary switch! It's difficult to use while wearing gloves, and doesn't give a positive "click" into each setting. This light should have the tailcap button switch along with the rotary so a user could choose how it's activated. I also miss the side button to adjust beam settings. Buy the PD36 instead. . ."

Bugsy (2/5)

"It would be nice if you could adjust the beam into a point as well but overall am pleased with the quality!"

Kalei (5/5)

Brightest rechargeable light

"Very easy to use, but more importantly even brighter than I expected"
